Calculation of Hourly Wage
In addition to factoring in business expenses and the availability of scholarships and discounted rates (See the “HOPE Scholarship” page and the various packages on the “Services” page.), I considered the following information when determining my hourly wage.
#1 - Local Teaching Wages: I first determined the hourly wage I would be receiving as a local teacher with over seven years full-time teaching experience, a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Master of Arts in Teaching degree (MAT), and 24+ graduate-level education credits for continued professional development and Oregon licensure.
Siuslaw School District #97J Hourly Wage (Step 8 Licensed Professional Educator for MA+24 for 2023-2024): $64,229 / 177 days of school year / 8 hours = $45.36/hour
Mapleton School District #32 Hourly Wage (Step 8 Licensed Professional Educator for MA+24 for 2023-2024): $72,000 / 166 days / 9 hours = $48.19/hour
#2 - Average of Two Local School District’s Hourly Wages: $45.36/hour + $48.19/hour / 2 districts = $46.78/hour
#3 - Nationwide Tutoring Wages for Services that I Provide: My reasoning for placing myself in the 75th percentile of tutors is that tutoring salaries and wages vary greatly based on the level of education of the tutor, the experience of the tutor, as well as the subject matter for which tutoring services are being provided. Due to the fact that most tutors do not have a MAT and 24+ graduate-level education credits combined with 7+ years of full-time teaching experience, it seemed reasonable for me to place myself above the “average” 50th percentile of tutors in the subject areas for which I will be providing teaching and tutoring services. Furthermore, I have a proven track record of consistently putting forth 100% effort to provide high-quality educational opportunities by being attentive to my individual students’ needs and staying current on best teaching practices for both online and in-person teaching and tutoring.
75th Percentile of Spanish Tutors: $67,000 / 182 days (~half of the calendar year) / 8 hours = $46.02/hour
75th Percentile of English Tutors: $60,000 / 182 days (~half of the calendar year) / 8 hours = $41.21/hour
75th Percentile of Career Coaches: $48,000 / 182 days (~half of the calendar year) / 8 hours = $32.97/hour
75th Percentile of Language Tutors: $63,500 / 182 days (~half of the calendar year) / 8 hours = $43.61/hour
#4 - Average of Nationwide Tutoring Wages for Services that I Provide: $46.02/hour + $41.21/hour + $32.97/hour + $43.61/hour = $163.81 / 4 tutoring types = $40.95/hour
#5 - Average of Local Teaching Wages (#2) and Nationwide Tutoring Wages (#4): $46.78/hour + $40.95/hour = $87.73 / 2 wage types = $43.87/hour
#6 - Average of Local Teaching Wages and Nationwide Tutoring Wages (#5) PLUS Payment Processing Fee:
$43.87/hour + $1.57 (2.9% + 30 cents, payment processing fee) = $45.44 rounded down = $45.00/hour
